November 13, 2007 Martina McBride has partnered with Mary Kay cosmetics to battle domestic violence with a one-of-a-kind charity campaign, dubbed "A Kiss for Country."
To kick off the campaign, Martina helped unveil a series of celebrity lip prints that are now up for auction at uBid.com with 100 percent of the proceeds going to programs committed to ending domestic violence. She added her own lip print to those of Reba McEntire, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, and even George Strait, plus many more.
Martina tells Dial-Global that one thing that drew her to this particular program was its fun twist on celebrity auctions. "Well, it is unique and I think that's why it will work," she says. "Raising money for charity, you have to constantly come up with new and fresh ideas, and this is a great idea. Its a chance for fans to own a piece of memorabilia and at the same time, a lot of money is gonna get donated to help women and children who need it."
In addition, the Mary Kay Charitable Foundation will provide a $20,000 grant in each participating artist's name, making a total commitment of $3 million for the cause. The grants will be awarded to women's shelters in each of the 50 states next year.
