Garth Says He's Not a Numbers Man

December 5, 2007 — While Garth Brooks decided against playing more than nine nights in Kansas City earlier this month, he says ticket demand was high enough for 14 shows, which was "shocking" to him.

Such strong numbers may have come as a surprise to Garth because, as he tells Dial-Global, he doesn't really pay much attention to them. "You gotta get away from it 'cause if you get your head in the numbers, then you start believing this stuff," he says. "And is it really about that? I was always taught just keep your head down, work, have fun, play and then look up and see where you are. Don't set a number somewhere or limit yourself by that."

Garth's quick sellout of five shows in Los Angeles last week is another strong indicator of how much people want to see him in concert, and he continues his long-running commitment to maintain low ticket prices for his fans. Tickets to the Kansas City shows averaged $30, while the Los Angeles tickets sold for $45, which is low by most standards but seemed too high to Garth.

"Please let everyone know I hate to ask so much for a ticket," he says, "but 100 percent of the money is going to victims of the recent [California] fires and to the firefighters facing future fires."
