December 10, 2007 — Tanya Tucker took the top spot at the Careity Foundation's annual Celebrity Cutting Competition last week in Fort Worth, Tex.

Cutting involves selecting a single calf from the herd, gently guiding it into the center of the arena, and then, with fast starts and turns, preventing it from ducking past the horse and escaping back into the herd.

Tanya, who has been riding horses all her life, participated in the event for her third year in a row. She and her partner, Brazilian national bull-riding champion Guilherme Marchi, combined their experience and skill to ride their way to victory.

Tanya and Guilherme were joined by eight other celebrity teams for the event. Participants included Trent Wilmon and country radio personality Bob Kingsley.

Lyn Walsh, president of the Careity Foundation and co-producer of the event, said she thought Tanya's ride was incredible. "Tanya had a wonderful ride!" she said. "She does an excellent job every year."

The Careity Foundation is an organization dedicated to helping cancer patients.

"Being on a cutting horse is like driving a Porsche Turbo," Tanya said. "Being on top of all that horsepower is the most exciting experience. I love speed, and being in control of all that speed and agility is so incredibly empowering...once you ride a cutting horse it's hard to go back to anything else!"
