January 18, 2008 The Eagles' current CD, Long Road Out Of Eden, marks the band's first complete album of new studio material in 28 years. When they released that 1979 album, The Long Run, they appeared almost exclusively on pop and rock radio, but thanks to their current single, "How Long," they're heard primarily these days on country airwaves.
That is as it ought to be, according to many current country artists, including Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney.
"Country music has influenced people in all kinds of walks of life and different kinds of genres, and the Eagles were obviously influenced by country in some sense back in the day," Joe Don tells Dial-Global. "They were one of the artists that truly bridged the gap and blurred the lines, so to speak, between rock and country. And to me they are a big part of country. So let's have 'em! Bring 'em on!"
Apparently, all three members of Rascal Flatts believe that. At last year's Grammy Awards, they joined Carrie Underwood in presenting a live tribute to the Eagles at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
