Grand Ole Opry star Porter Wagoner.

February 8, 2008 — Dolly Parton appears on the cover of the March edition of Ladies' Home Journal, where she says she was actually at Porter Wagoner's side when he died of lung cancer last October.

"It was like losin' a piece of me," she notes, "like losin' your daddy."

Dolly says she has to work at being happy and indicates that she has a personal chapel at her Nashville office and on her property at home as a reminder to pray.

But she's also typical Dolly in talking about her still-fabulous figure and well-kept appearance: "If somebody asks me point blank, 'Have you had plastic surgery?' it's like, well duh! I never talk about it unless someone asks me. But I don't want to lie about it."

And husband Carl Dean doesn't complain. According to Dolly, his take on her beauty procedures is simple: "Why should I cheat on her when I get a new woman every six months?"
