March 14, 2008 — Chris Cagle enjoyed a healthy first week of sales when he debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country album chart recently with his latest release, My Life Is A Country Song.

Chris has endured a number of ups and downs in recent years, and he underwent therapy at one point to sort out much of it. In the aftermath, he says he's come to realize he didn't need to be more dramatic than other things going on around him.

"The last record I made was called Anywhere But Here, and that's where I wanted to be," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I didn't care. I finally realized my life is performing, but my life isn't a performance, and that's a hard thing. 'Cause it's like if I walk into a room, and if everybody's just sitting there watching TV, I used to think I've got to be better than the sitcom, you know what I mean? And I don't."

In addition, Chris says he's come to realize that the hard times he's faced in his personal life don't necessarily make him unique. Recognizing he's not alone in combating negative events helped him readdress his view of life.

"When we can get all that behind us and become the person that we are supposed to be, that's when we are making a move, that's when we are counting," he said. "Whether I make another record or not, that's not gonna change who I am supposed to be. I don't think music is the final destination of my life, I think it's a chapter. I've got a lot in me. I've got a lot to offer life."

Chris' current single, "What Kinda Gone," recently ranked in the Top 10 on Country Aircheck's national country chart.
