May 7, 2008 When Trisha Yearwood shot her current video, "This Is Me Youre Talking To," she picked actor John Corbett to play the part of her ex.
John, who made a country album of his own, is best known for roles in "Sex And The City" and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but he was not the first person Trisha considered for the part. That distinction went to her husband, Garth Brooks, who decided against it.
"Garth and I kind of made a pinky swear early on that we would not gratuitously use each other in videos," she told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "We just kind of want to make sure that we make it special. He didnt sing on the song. He didnt write the song, so there wasnt really a place for him. I offered him the part, but he said, Im gonna pass."
As a result, Trisha decided John would be perfect for the role, since hes usually played nice guys in his other work, and that would lend a good spirit to the way fans perceived him in the video.
"I know hes not those [characters], but we want him to be those [characters]," she explained. "Hes 6-5", so that was important. Hes tall. And I knew he made a record in Nashville. I knew he had a passion for music, and it was just one of those things where I thought, He could just say no. Thats the worst thing that could happen. And he was so great. He was sweet to say yes, and I think [he] made a great song an even better video, because people want to see it, and they respond to the song."
"This Is Me Youre Talking To" is currently No. 8 on GACs Top 20 Country Countdown.
