May 15, 2008 — Miranda Lambert won the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist award last year, and now she finds herself in even headier company. She’s a finalist for Top Female Vocalist against Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. You’d better believe it means something to her.
"I’m a country music fan, and I have been forever," she said on GAC’s ACM Showcase. "I have, I think, every album Martina McBride ever put out, and I used to sit by the speaker. And my dad bought me the cassette tape of Blue when it came out, and [I] tried to sing just like Leann Rimes. And now I’m actually sitting next to ‘em, in a category with them, and it’s really surreal."
The winner will be determined Sunday during the ACM Awards in Las Vegas. You can find out more about the female nominees when ACM Showcase airs today on GAC at 10 a.m. ET and again at 3 p.m.
