June 25, 2008 Rugged singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson won Song of the Year from the Country Music Association last year for his work on the George Strait hit "Give It Away," and hes currently being heard many places with his new song "In Color."
That single is featured on Jameys new album, That Lonesome Song, which will be released Aug. 5. Jamey had a hand in writing 11 of the 13 songs on the project with such co-writers as James Otto, Alabamas Teddy Gentry and the two men who worked with him on "Give It Away": Buddy Cannon and Bill Anderson.
Jamey co-produced the album with several friends and studio musicians, who hes cleverly nicknamed the Kent Hardly Playboys, and he hopes it moves him up a rung as an artist. Jamey scored a hit in 2006 with "The Dollar" but split with his former label shortly afterward. In the meantime, hes achieved greater success by writing several songs for other artists, including "Give It Away" and a pair of Trace Adkins titles, "Ladies Love Country Boys" and "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk."
But, Jamey says, "Writing is not enough for me. I did not come [to Nashville] to just be a writer. I live to play. Im not here to take a stab at it, I am going to do it."
