Shania Twain Writing Feverishly

July 15, 2008 — Shania Twain is reportedly heartbroken over her split from husband-producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, but like any dedicated artist, she’s funneling her emotions into new material.

"She’s spending as much time with [son] Eja as possible and hasn’t put down her guitar since the split," a source told People magazine. "The songs are pouring out of her."

It might end up showing a different side of Shania. She came to superstardom following the 1995 release of her album The Woman In Me, her first after she married Mutt. Most of the songs were co-written by the two of them, and they tended — as did the songs on her subsequent albums, Come On Over and Up! — toward upbeat tempos and positive lyrics. Breakups usually inspire more downbeat songs.

Shania meanwhile has been a bit of a world traveller since she and Mutt parted company. She’s been spotted in the Caribbean, in Switzerland and in her native Canada.
