Megastar Toby Keith and Scotty Emerick get up close and personal with the troops at a remote forward operating base located in a very "active-fire" area in the Persian Gulf. A strong supporter of our troops, Toby has previously traveled to Africa, Cuba, Belgium, Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Italy, Germany and numerous times to Iraq and Afghanistan for the USO. Aug. 14, 2008 — No genre has sent more artists to the Middle East to perform for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan than country music, and a number of the format’s biggest stars — including Toby Keith, Joe Nichols and Clint Black — are slated to appear in a September ABC special, "America United: In Support Of Our Troops."

They’re joined in the two-hour event — cobbled together from shoots at a variety of military bases — by Jessica Simpson, ZZ Top, Snoop Dogg, Janet Jackson, Pamela Anderson, Jordin Sparks, comedian Kathy Griffin and Sam & Dave singer Sam Moore, among others.

Toby’s appearance on the show comes with a twist. He was booted from an ABC Fourth of July special in 2002, allegedly because newsman Peter Jennings took offense over Toby’s song "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)," inspired in part by his father’s sacrifices in military service.

Slated for Sept. 7, "America United" leads into several country-related events for ABC. On Sept. 8, the network presents "CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock," hosted by Taylor Swift, Julianne Hough and Kellie Pickler. On Sept. 10, Taylor and Rascal Flatts will announce the nominees for the 42nd annual Country Music Association Awards on "Good Morning, America." Balloting to determine the CMA finalists began Wednesday.
