Aug. 21, 2008 Travis Tritt is a one-of-a-kind singer, but hes making a lot of noise these days as a musical collaborator, both with Dobro icon Jerry Douglas and long-time friend Marty Stuart.
Travis showed up at the Country Music Hall of Fame on Tuesday to perform with Jerry in the first of several shows the musician is giving as an artist in residence. Travis sang the title track to Jerrys new album Glide, and did two of his own songs that featured Jerry on the recordings: "Modern Day Bonnie And Clyde" and "Drift Off To Dream."
According to WKRN-TV, Jerry actually tapped Travis on the shoulder after theyd started the latter song and brought it to a halt. Jerry noted that they were in the wrong key, and though Travis was going to give it a shot once they started, Jerry knew he was creating a potential problem when Travis went to hit the big notes.
"Youre a friend," Jerry told him. "Im not going to do that to you."
Travis meanwhile is getting geared up for an acoustic tour with Marty Stuart that will tie in with Travis next album. The concerts will feature "no band, nobody else, just the two of us, a couple of guitars," Travis told The Las Vegas Sun.
The pair intend to co-produce the new album, though what that will be remains anybodys guess: "We havent started writing anything for it, and I havent started sitting down and putting the whole concept together."
