Sept. 15, 2008 — In a move that appears to be a first in the industry, the Oak Ridge Boys have put themselves up for auction on eBay. The group is offering a private New Year’s Eve show for the highest bidder, with potential buyers able to submit a price through Sept. 21.

"You name the place, enter your winning bid and we'll be there!" Duane Allen promises.

It’s believed that a major artist has never before put a concert up for bidding on the Internet’s best-known auction site. The Oaks have established a minimum bid of $25,000 for the show, which will mark the first Dec. 31 concert they’ve performed in years. The agreement specifies that the concert is to remain completely private and allow no more than 200 guests. But singing "Elvira" with close friends in a champagne-soaked conga line would certainly be a memorable way to usher in 2009.

"I am a huge fan of eBay," tenor Joe Bonsall says, looking ahead to December. "I hope somebody from Hawaii wins!"
