Sept. 17, 2008 — Martina McBride’s hit "This One’s For The Girls" carries a verse that’s dedicated to "all you girls about 42," currently appropriate since Martina turned 42 in July.

For her, the "summer of 42" is one in which she’s doing her best to come to terms with the ageing process and to find the silver lining in the advance of time.

"That’s a struggle," Martina admits. "I don’t think you make a decision: ‘OK, I’m gonna handle this gracefully.’ Sometimes you handle it gracefully, and sometimes you think ‘This really sucks’ and sometimes you think ‘How can I be this age? I feel like I’m 30.’ And sometimes you think, ‘what’s the future gonna be like?’ — all those kinda things. I just think it’s life. It’s an ongoing process for me, and some days are better than others, but I do think you have to decide."

One of the hardest parts of the process is that with maturity, the uncertainties of life become more pronounced. Coming to terms with the hazy road ahead and the dreams that sometimes get left behind can be difficult.

"I’m like everybody else," she says. "I have anxieties about the future of the planet and about the human race and about my career and my kids — everything. So you sometimes have to decide that you’re not gonna worry yourself to death."

Martina is currently working on a new album with producer Dann Huff. It’s expected to hit the marketplace after the first of the year.
