Sept. 19, 2008 — His current album is titled "Rock N Roll Jesus." A prior release was named "Cocky." Kid Rock’s music and his stage show are built on bravado, and he figures he earned the right to do it that way.

"I picked myself up after being kicked down so many times, I can't count 'em," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I don't want to. You know, I learned how to sweep the floors in a recording studio before I ever made a record. So, I started ground up from that. So, the confidence I have, before I walk onstage — I'm kinda going like, 'Oh, these people have no idea what I'm about to hit 'em with.' I get excited like I'm gonna knock somebody out. ‘Watch this.’ I'm just gonna get 'em started, and then I'm just gonna take them up to the top."

Kid Rock’s certainly been headed in that direction with his latest single. "All Summer Long," which samples music from both Lynyrd Skynyrd and Warren Zevon, is a pop hit and a Top 10 country single. It’s not his first appearance on the country chart, though. His recording of "Picture" — released in two different duet versions, one with Sheryl Crow and another with Allison Moorer — hit the charts in 2002 and earned awards nominations from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
