Sept. 24, 2008 — It’s been just 11 days since Kenny Chesney wrapped up his mammoth Poets & Pirates Tour, and it was the most gratifying concert schedule he put together in several years.

As always, Kenny pulled in millions of dollars on the tour, but the schedule also helped him remember the old adage that money can’t buy you happiness. He should know; back in 2005, Renee Zellweger had their marriage annulled just months after they tied the knot, and he went into a prolonged personal funk. It affected him when he wasn’t on stage during the tours in 2006 and 2007, and his bulging bank account wasn’t much help.

"We’re all taught as kids, the more you achieve the more money you get and the more success you have, that’s supposed to equal happiness," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "And it’s not that way. I mean, if you’re not in the right place in your heart or your head, it don’t matter how much money you’ve got, you’re miserable."

One of the guys who was there for Kenny with advice was Willie Nelson, who consoled Kenny during Farm Aid 2005, just days after Renee filed the papers to void their marriage. Kenny ultimately produced Willie’s album Moment Of Forever, and Kenny returned this past weekend to the latest installment of Farm Aid, where the two sang together on Willie’s 1982 hit "Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning." Willie and Kenny have also recorded a duet version of the traditional-pop classic "Lucky Old Sun," which is the title track for Kenny’s next album, due Oct. 21.

Other duets on the album pair Kenny with Dave Matthews and with Mac McAnally, who recorded the original version of Kenny’s concert staple "Back Where I Come From."
