Nov. 4, 2008 — Heidi Newfield started down a new path this year with the release of her first solo album, What Am I Waiting For.

The album’s title track — written with Jeffrey Steele and former Trick Pony partners Keith Burns and Ira Dean — is about the difficulty of making a major life change, the agony of the decision and the freedom that comes when you finally do. Heidi found it cleansing.

"I think all of us — whether you’re a singer and a songwriter, you’re just a listener and a fan — we all go to music as our therapy oftentimes," she told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "When I’m miserable or really sad or I’m really having a tough time, I don’t know about you, but I go to my sad songs ‘cause I want to commiserate with something, and music is that perfect thing to go to. Music is that universal language that no matter what, we can always go to."

Heidi plans to brighten up the holidays in her little corner of the universe later this month. She’s joining Charlie Daniels Nov. 24 at the Christmas For Kids benefit concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The bill also features Montgomery Gentry, Phil Vassar and Rodney Atkins.
