Nov. 12, 2008 "God Bless The U.S.A." singer Lee Greenwood spent plenty of time this fall on the campaign trail for Republican candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin, and now another Republican is installing him a position that will last throughout the term of Democrat Barack Obama.
President George W. Bush has named him to serve among the 14 members of the National Council on Arts, which oversees the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency that hands out grants for creative endeavors. Among the NEAs annual programs is bestowing the National Medal of Arts and the National Heritage Fellowship. Just some of the country figures whove picked up those honors in the past are George Jones, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, Jerry Douglas, Roy Acuff, George Strait and Dolly Parton.
Lee will be sworn in for his six-year term, according to The Los Angeles Times, on Monday.
Among the places where Lee was spotted this fall on the stump with the Republican ticket were Scranton, Pa.; Reno, Nev.; Bangor, Maine; and Findlay, Ohio.
