Nov. 20, 2008 — Reba McEntire won an Outer Circle Critics Award in 2001 after conquering the New York theater district with her role in Annie Get Your Gun and tackled South Pacific in a three-night run during 2007 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

Now it appears she may be headed back to Broadway for a revival of the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes. The New York Post reports Reba’s likely to portray a nightclub singer, a character originated by Ethel Merman when it first appeared in 1934.

The production is expected to be produced by Kathleen Marshall, whose remake of The Pajama Game became a Tony-winning offering two years ago.

Among the songs that Cole Porter fitted into the Anything Goes score are "You’re The Top," "Let’s Misbehave" and "I Get A Kick Out Of You." While Cole was a major player on Broadway, Reba would not be the first country star to sing one of his pieces. Gene Autry earned a country hit in 1945 with his version of "Don’t Fence Me In."
