Nov. 25, 2008 — Tim McGraw’s second hit came with "Don’t Take The Girl," a song that follows a boy’s life from the early years, when he wants nothing to do with the opposite sex, to adulthood, when he’s committed to one specific woman.
There’s some irony in the song’s title, since Tim is now surrounded by girls. He’s married to Faith Hill, and they’ve got three daughters. Even though it’s become his day-to-day existence, but he doesn’t always understand what’s going on in the house.
"It’s not easy," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I’m a guy — I mean I’m a guy’s guy — and then I’ve got a house full of estrogen. And I’ve got one [girl] that’s 11 that just started junior high. I mean, there’s some things going on in that head. I don’t know what’s going on with her. But it’s tough, you know. It’s a learning process. You certainly can’t be close-minded, like it’s gonna be my way. And I’ve tried that: ‘It’s gonna be my way, we’re gonna do it this way, you’re gonna get up and you’re gonna do that.’ And it just doesn’t work. I don’t know if it’s different for boys, but with girls, it just doesn’t work that way. You’ve got to figure out how to deal with ‘em on their terms."
Tim published a book about raising a daughter last month: My Little Girl.
