Dec. 3, 2008 Emerson Drive has said goodbye to Old Faithful. That wasnt the real name for their tour bus, but it could have been: The vehicle ran more than 1 million miles during its lifetime.
"Not many buses see a million miles, so it was cool to see the odometer spin past 999,999 and go back to zero on a trip a few weeks back to New Mexico," lead vocalist Brad Mates says. "That was the last run for us in this bus."
It might be gone, but the bus certainly had its moments. One of the best was a simple one: when the band took its first trip in it.
"We started out in a minivan years ago traveling around the country, and then we finally upgraded to a 1972 Greyhound bus," keyboard player Dale Wallace observed. "The big issue with that bus was that it didnt have a toilet. Then four years ago, we bought this current bus, and when we got it, we couldnt have been more excited. We finally had a bus with a toilet!"
Not so exciting: Someone had to empty it.
