Dec. 17, 2008 Hayes Carll, whose "She Left Me For Jesus" won Song of the Year during the Americana Honors & Awards, is the most-played Americana artist for 2008, according to data provided by the Americana Music Association.
Hayes, James McMurtry and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss top the chart, which reflects airplay for all the songs contained on a specific album. The ranking is based on broadcasts between Nov. 19, 2007 and Nov. 10, 2008.
Many of the Americana genres calling-card artists actually appear outside the Top 10 in the list, which extends a full 100 places. Albums that missed the Top 10 include Willie Nelsons Moment Of Forever, Emmylou Harris All I Intended To Be, Rodney Crowells Sex And Gasoline, Cross Canadian Ragweeds Mission California and Old Crow Medicine Shows Tennessee Pusher.
