Mindy McCready

Dec. 18, 2008 — For at least the third time, Mindy McCready apparently attempted suicide this week. She was taken to Nashville’s Centennial Hospital Wednesday morning after slashing her wrists, according to reports from The New York Daily News and E! Online.

Mindy allegedly underwent a psychiatric evaluation Tuesday night, then returned home drunk at 3:30 a.m. She gave her mother a "disturbing" phone call before 6:30 a.m., and her mom in turn placed a call to Mindy’s brother, Timothy, who went out to the kitchen and found Mindy stumbling about. She later placed a phone call to her assistant to say she’d "done something bad," and Timothy found her in her bed at 10:15 a.m. with slashed wrists and bloodied bedding. She apparently took several pills as well.

Mindy’s life has been a turbulent tragedy for several years. During 2008, she admitted to an affair with married major-league pitcher Roger Clemens, who has continued to deny impropriety in the relationship. She also underwent treatment for a nervous breakdown during the summer. Mindy twice attempted suicide by narcotic overdose in 2005. She’s also been beaten, arrested for drunk driving and jailed on several different charges. She was serving time exactly one year ago for a probation violation in Williamson County, Tennessee.
