Jan. 6, 2009 During this week a year ago, Trace Adkins made his first appearance on the NBC series "The Celebrity Apprentice," beginning a run that ultimately had him singing "Youre Gonna Miss This" during the final episode just as the song reached No. 1 on the singles charts.
Over the summer, "Miss This" outranked every other video on GACs Top 20 Country Countdown for a whopping 10 weeks, and it finished the year at No. 1 when GAC counted down the Top 50 Videos Of 2008.
That achievement may not be the last of the songs successes, though. Traces rendition is nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance, while songwriters Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller are likewise in the running with the tune for Best Country Song.
Part of the reason for Traces success with "Youre Gonna Miss This" is that its theme of being happy in the moment with what you have is one thats important to him.
"Ive had that conversation with my kids," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "You know, you go through the teenage years, and they get depressed and all this stuff that goes along with it. Ive tried to tell them, These are the best years of your life. Youve got to enjoy this and savor every second of it. Not because that there are so many wonderful things happening around you, just for the simple fact that you dont have any responsibilities. You have zero responsibility. Your job is to be a decent kid. You dont have to work. You dont have to earn any money. You dont have to do anything, except be a kid."
Like his kids, Trace has plenty to savor these days, thanks in part to "Youre Gonna Miss This." Its No. 1 standing among the fan-voted top videos of 2008 makes it the third straight year hes topped the GAC list. He also turned that trick in 2007 with "Ladies Love Country Boys" and in 06 with "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." Plus, Traces "Muddy Water" video ranked No. 3 for 2008.
"Muddy Water" was also No. 1 during the last weekly countdown in December. To find out if Trace can maintain his top standing, watch Top 20 Country Countdown on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
