Jan. 6, 2009 Ashton Shepherds debut album made her one of the top new females of 2008, landing her in two slots when GAC counted down the Top 50 Videos Of 2008.
Released in March, Ashtons Sounds So Good CD is a hard-core country project, but she listens to so much traditional music that shes needed a little distance from the CD to have a good perspective on just how traditional it really is.
"I haven't listened to the record in a long time," she told The Washington Post. "I've kept away from it so I could start to listen through it again at the end of [2008] and start to think about a third single for radio and everything. I forget how traditional it sounds in so many ways. It's still kind of contemporary compared to old country music. But when you listen to it after listenin' to the radio a lot, you go, Wow, this is pretty country!"
That fact struck a chord with GAC viewers. The fan-voted Top 50 Videos included "Takin Off This Pain," at No. 49; and "Sounds So Good," No. 35.
The Alabama resident has a couple of Southern gigs on tap with Little Big Town this month. Ashtons set to appear Jan. 29 in Montgomery, Ala., and Jan. 30 in Atlanta.
