Taylor Swift (r) hosts GAC's Top 50 Videos of 2008 and welcomes special guest, Kellie Pickler.

Jan. 9, 2009 — New Year’s Eve was nice and toasty if you watched 2009 roll in on TV. It was downright freezing if you were out in Times Square making merry with Ryan Seacrest and the swarms of party animals in the Big Apple.

Kellie Pickler trolled the crowd as a correspondent on "Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve." The reported temperature was 18 degrees, which is cold enough, but there were also gusts of up to 35 miles an hour, making it both uncomfortable and potentially dangerous.

"I was only out there for like two hours, and I got like frostbite on my feet," she told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "It was just crazy. My big toe was like purple and was like splotched purple goin’ all the way up the side of my foot. And my second toe on my left foot was yellow. There was no blood [pumping in my feet]. I was, ‘If my feet don’t look better, I’m not doing this.’ It was like really bad. So I sat inside for like 45 minutes, thawed my feet out and then my color started coming back, but it really scared me."

Kellie’s stylist came up with a solution. They put two 10-hour warmers in each of her shoes, and she wore two pair of socks. She also loaded each of her pockets with four hand warmers. That did nothing for her speech, though — it was evident from watching her that Kellie’s lips were going numb. How Taylor Swift was able to sing in a sleeveless dress — that’s a question for the ages.

This weekend looks much safer for Kellie. She’s scheduled to play Friday and Saturday in Lincoln City, Ore., where temperatures are expected to stay in the 40s. Plus, she’s indoors both nights, at the Chinook Winds Casino.
