Feb. 2, 2009 Its good to be in Blake Sheltons shoes these days. For the first time in his career, hes earned back-to-back No. 1 hits with "Home" and "She Wouldnt Be Gone," which is currently at the top of the USA Today Mediabase country singles list.
Blakes been to No. 1 before, but to show consistency as hes doing now is taking him to a new level in his career. His girlfriend, Miranda Lambert, didnt know quite what to make of it.
"Were freakin out," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "Its funny, because [last] Monday I got the call and they said the song had gone No. 1, and I was jumpin around high-fivin everybody, and Miranda stood off to the side and all of a sudden she goes, Why does everybody like you all of a sudden? That was her response to me havin a No. 1 reord. I couldnt believe it."
It feels like a bit of role reversal in the relationship. Mirandas Crazy Ex-Girlfriend took the Academy of Country Music award for Album of the Year last May. Both the album and her single "Gunpowder & Lead" have been certified gold.
"I know my career must be doin good when she starts to get a little bit jealous, cause shes always winnin awards and platinum albums," he laughed. "When I saw that little bit of jealousy Yeah, things are goin good!"
The Mediabase chart isnt the only place where Blakes hit No. 1. Hes also in the lead position on GACs Top 20 Country Countdown.
"That is unbelievable to me," he said, of owning both charts. "I wish I could take this, freeze this moment forever. Im really not kiddin. Its unbelievable."
The next question, of course, is whether he can hang on another week on both charts. The next Mediabase list will be printed in Tuesdays edition of USA Today. The next Top 20 Country Countdown debuts on GAC Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
