Feb. 3, 2009 Taylor Swift is on top on the national charts, but shell be Down Under in March, making her Australian concert debut before she begins her Fearless Tour in the U.S. in April.
Taylor has five shows slated on the overseas trek, with four of them catering to all-ages or under-18s crowds. The March 5 kickoff concert at The Tivoli in Brisbane is already sold out, as is the closing Aussie performance at The Factory in Sydney on March 12. She also appears at a festival in Thredbo and does a pair of dates in Melbourne.
It all represents expanding opportunities for the 19-year-old singer. The Australian dates expand Taylors audience, as did her London debut last September. In addition, taking over top billing on her tours allows her more time with the audience than the standard 30- or 45-minute set that an opening act receives.
"Headlining my own tour is a dream come true!" she says. "This way I can play more music every night than I ever have before. Having written my own songs, they are all stories in my head, and my goal for this tour is to bring those stories to life."
Kellie Pickler has the opening slot on the Fearless Tour, which begins in Evansville, Ind., April 23.
