Keith, Jamey, Blake: Assorted Valentine’s Treats

Feb. 13, 2009 — Roses, chocolates, teddy bears, diamond rings — Valentine’s Day sure is romantic, isn’t it?

Yes, and no. Keith Urban, Jamey Johnson and Blake Shelton are among the country artists with insight into the mandated holiday of love. Among country stars’ possibilities for Feb. 14: music, Dracula and one big kiss-off?

• Hallmark has figured out how to make romance good for business, and Keith Urban’s doing that, too. He’s made it possible to customize the "Sweet Thing" video and send it to someone as a personal message of affection. On first glance, it appears the site is a method to collect personal data on Keith’s friends, but a note on the webpage insists that no information will be saved.

• Jason Michael Carroll and his wife, Wendy, started a weird Valentine’s Day tradition when they were barely making ends meet in Winston-Salem. He took her to dinner and then rented a movie to watch at home. "I wouldn’t show her which one I got," Jason told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I said, ‘Well, it’s a love story.’ So I kinda hinted around to it. We got to the house, I opened it up and we put it in, and we started watching Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Wendy to this day laughs about it, but there hasn’t been a Valentine’s Day yet that we haven’t watched it since then. I think this is going on our fourth year watching Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s a love story — he loves her to death."

• Men get themselves in big trouble when they buy the wrong gift for Valentine’s Day — cleaning supplies are probably not going to go over well. Women, however, have it easy, according to Blake Shelton. "I’ll tell you what every man wants for Valentine’s Day," he said on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "And women, I don’t give a crap whether you like it or not, if you think, ‘Well, I want to put some thought into it.’ Give a guy money. Give a guy cash. I don’t care if it’s $5, $10, $20. We don’t want y’all buying us socks or cologne or ties. Give us some money, and we know what we want. We want beer, and we want lighters, even if we don't smoke. We like to buy crap like that. Okay?"

• For those who boycott Valentine's Day, Jamey Johnson offers the anti-Valentine’s Day e-card. Using the song "Mowin’ Down The Roses," from his Grammy-nominated album That Lonesome Song, Jamey gives you the chance to tell an ex just how much they mean to you.
