Feb. 16, 2009 A lot of country songs celebrate alcohol, including Kenny Chesneys "Keg In The Closet," Toby Keiths "Stays In Mexico" and John Andersons "Straight Tequila Night." But Blake Shelton knows from experience that drinking doesnt necessarily lead to a great drinking song.
"Normally when youve been drinking and you write a song, the next day you wake up and its the worst song youve ever heard in your life," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I wrote a song one time called You Picked Your Nose With the Finger Im Wrapped Around, and I thought it was brilliant, cause I had been drinking. And the next day I realized it wouldnt be a hit."
The final song on Blake's current album, Startin Fires, is one that he and girlfriend Miranda Lambert wrote after a drink or two. Its called "Bare Skin Rug," and the storyline mixes alcohol and young love. Its got a goofy line or two, but its still a far cry from "You Picked Your Nose With The Finger Im Wrapped Around."
