Feb. 26, 2009 Montgomery Gentry earned its reputation as a hard-charging, high-spirited duo, and Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry made a point of burnishing that image with their latest single, "One In Every Crowd."
"Weve been kinda semi-serious with Roll With Me, a laidback kinda thing," Troy told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "We were just kinda going back a little bit to the old Montgomery Gentry kind of stuff, something a little rowdy, rambunctious. You know, coming into spring and everything, we wanted a fun-hearted, kinda tongue-in-cheek kind of song."
Montgomery Gentry is playing arenas and amphitheaters these days, but "One In Every Crowd" taps into their early days.
"When Eddie wrote the song, he was thinking of the days of us growing up in the clubs, being rambunctious and having fun," Troy noted. "If you play the clubs long enough, you pick out the ones that sit there, that come in every night and sit at the same place, and the ones that come in and cause all the ruckus and the drunks and the ones that buy all the drinks. And its just a fun song."
"One In Every Crowd" ranks at No. 26 on the Country Aircheck chart. Meanwhile, Montgomery Gentry has started recording its next album. The duos website currently features video footage from inside the studio with appearances by producer Blake Chancey, keyboard player Chuck Leavell and ex-Trick Pony member Ira Dean, who co-wrote "Crowd" with Eddie.
