Feb. 27, 2009 — "Chicken Fried" provided a very nice foundation for the Zac Brown Band’s career, and the group cooked up a guest appearance this week with Nan Kelley on GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown.
With its folksy sentiment and all-American lyrics, "Chicken Fried" took Zac and crew all the way to No. 1 late last year. "Chicken Fried" was officially certified gold on Monday and led ZBB to a nomination for Top New Vocal duo or Group in the "44th Annual ACM Awards". The band’s CD The Foundation also hit the Top 5 on the Billboard country albums chart.
Nan has her own bit of good news to share. She and husband Charlie Kelley each beat cancer in the last year, and Charlie’s bout with colon cancer inspired a concert to raise awareness of the issue. The Stars Go Blue For Colon Cancer benefit will star Vince Gill, Amy Grant and Hal Ketchum March 24 at the Ford Theatre in Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Under the circumstances, it’s not unlikely that Charlie — a Grammy-nominated polka artist and former member of the ‘90s country band the Buffalo Club — might take the stage as well.
