March 2, 2009 — Jake Owen is by every stretch of the imagination a country singer. And he’s such a fan of country music that when George Jones performed in Nashville, Jake went alone to make sure he didn’t get distracted by someone else who maybe didn’t get it.

But in the live arena, Jake has a rock ‘n’ roll soul. Asked to name his three favorite concerts, he singled out a performance by Jack White and the Raconteurs at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, AC/DC’s recent show at the Sommet Center — complete with a loud rendition of "Highway To Hell" during the encore — and an appearance by alternative-rock band Fuel at Music Midtown in Atlanta.

"Fuel came out and just punched people in the face with their music," Jake told Entertainment Weekly. "It was awesome. I really, truly wish that at some point in my life, I can do that with my music — just kick people in the face with it, in a good way, where they walk away and they're like, ‘Wow, that kinda stung, but I want to come back again.’ It was hot as hell that day, and the lead singer came out in a full fur coat and this bottle of wine and he just started pounding it. And it got all over his white fur coat and he didn't even care. I just thought it was awesome, because it wasn't the Rolling Stones or some big band. It was Fuel."

Jake is one of 23 singers on the ballot as Country Weekly conducts a cyber poll to determine Country’s Hottest Bachelor. Kenny Chesney, Dwight Yoakam, Gary Allan, Phil Vassar and the Eli Young Band’s Mike Eli are just a few of the guys in the running. Click here to vote!
