March 18, 2009 Jason Aldean won the Academy of Country Musics Top New Male Vocalist award two years ago, and now hes looking to release his next album, Wide Open, on the heels of this years ceremony.
Reba McEntire hosts the show from Las Vegas April 5, and Jasons CD will hit the streets two days later. It marks his third album and finds him much wiser about the way the business works.
"We didn't even know what we were doing," he told Billboard, referring to his first album. "We just found a bunch of songs and cut them."
Whatever hes done, it worked. Fans responded to such hits as "Hicktown," "Johnny Cash," "Amarillo Sky" and Jasons current single, "Shes Country." And hes headlining some dates this year while opening others for Keith Urban.
Jasons watched other artists, including Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, go gonzo out of the chute and pass him in the Nashville pecking order. He may not have accelerated as fast as them, but you wont hear him complain.
"We've had a slow, steady pace," he said. "Hopefully that will allow us to hang around for a while. We're off to a good start."
Jason will headline when the ACM presents a free concert at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas leading up to this years awards. Also on the bill that night are Jake Owen, Julianne Hough and Matt Stillwell.
