May 8, 2009 — New duo Joey + Rory knows what it’s like to have record executives try to reshape their music, and they’re not afraid to poke a little fun at the people who run things behind the scenes. That’s exactly what they do in "Play The Song," a video that has the husband-wife team dressing in a leisure suit and a 1980s prom dress as they parody the men and women in control.

Directed by Peter Zavidil, the clip finds Joey Feek encouraged by execs to dress in blue hair and spangles and Rory Lee Feek with facial piercings. It’s a slap at Nashville’s obsession with imaging, which often results in artists being represented in a manner that doesn’t feel entirely real to them.

"The video isn't much of a stretch from our own personal experience in the music industry," Rory says. "Joey had meetings like this as a solo artist, and I, as a songwriter, have often had the 'pleasure' of songs being picked apart by Music Row executives. It's amazing the hoops you have to jump through sometimes to get your music heard, and I wrote the song out of those frustrations as well as similar experiences of folks in town who want to make it in the business but remain authentic."

"Everyone has an opinion about what will and won't work," Joey adds, "but one thing we have learned along the way is to be true to who you are, present honest music and let the fans decide."

Joey + Rory are making a splash with their first album, The Life Of A Song. They were nominated for the first time in the Academy of Country Music Awards for Top Vocal Duo.
