May 27, 2009 George Strait is the King of Country and not just with the genres fans. A slew of artists including Sugarland, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith and Faith Hill got together in April to honor him, and the event airs Wednesday as a CBS special, "George Strait: ACM Artist Of The Decade All Star Concert."
George becomes the fifth act named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, following Marty Robbins in the 1960s, Loretta Lynn in the 70s, Alabama in the 80s and Garth Brooks in the 90s.
"Everybody loves George Strait," Reba McEntire told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "He has hung in there throughout the years, and you know, the great song selection is it always starts with the song. And he comes up with the greatest songs, so thats a great combination of why hes stayed in the business so long."
"George Strait defines what it means to be a Texan," Jack Ingram adds. "He is completely his own man. He maintains high standards for himself, for his music and he always follows his own sense rather than other people's."
Reba is not on Wednesdays special, but she will join George on June 6 for the very first event in Dallas new Cowboys Stadium. Also on board for the concert are Blake Shelton and Julianne Hough.
