June 1, 2009 Luke Bryans first album, Ill Stay Me, set him up as a good-time party guy, thanks to the hangover hit "All My Friends Say" and his redneck send-up "Country Man."
Lukes currently in the final stages of work on his sophomore album, which will likely come out this fall, and he believes it will be a step forward.
"It's leaps and bounds better across the board," he told the Ohio State University paper The Lantern. "I think my songwriting is improved, my singing is improved and the music is improved, too."
Lukes clearly making a transition publicly. While he performed regularly as a teenager and during his college years, his first successes in Nashville came behind the scenes as a songwriter. He authored the title track on Travis Tritts album My Honky Tonk History and penned Billy Curringtons love-at-first-sight celebration "Good Directions." Despite those achievements, standing center stage was always his goal.
"I came to town to be an artist," Luke said. "I never came to town to be a songwriter. I want to go and be a star myself."
Thats exactly his role during the CMA Music Festival. Hes slated to perform June 12 at Nashvilles NFL stadium, LP Field, on a bill that includes Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Jake Owen and the Zac Brown Band.
