June 16, 2009 Kenny Chesney might have closed the CMA Music Festival Sunday at the home of the NFLs Tennessee Titans, but before he ever arrived at Nashvilles stadium, hed given performances at two different Chicago sports venues over the weekend.
Kenny held one of his signature stadium shows Saturday at Soldier Field, the home of the Chicago Bears, where he was joined by Sugarland, Montgomery Gentry, Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum.
But the day before, he went to historic Wrigley Field to sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch when the Cubs hosted the Minnesota Twins. Pinned in by ESPN, he admitted that hes not particularly a White Sox fan, but said he did follow the Cubs and the Boston Red Sox. Those two teams have the oldest ballparks in the major leagues.
"You know what it is?" Kenny said. "I love tradition. And [Wrigley] and Fenway has got the best tradition in baseball still, and I love that."
As is his own tradition, Kenny brought out several local sports athletes Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster and the Bears Jay Cutler and Greg Olsen to sing with him during the Soldier Field gig. Before he played in the NFL, Jay was the quarterback at Vanderbilt University, located in Kennys hometown of Nashville.
