June 22, 2009 — For a guy who’s retired from touring, Garth Brooks sure makes a lot of public appearances. His latest came Friday when he and Trisha Yearwood took part in the opening night of the summer season for the famed Hollywood Bowl amphitheater in Los Angeles.

Garth didn’t actually sing. He helped Star Wars conductor John Williams introduce the 10th annual Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame concert. Josh Groban and classical soprano Kiri Te Kanawa were inducted during the evening.

Garth and Trisha were on hand as previous Hall inductees. Garth entered in 2000 when the venue inaugurated its Hall of Fame. Trisha was added in 2005. During Friday’s concert — which also featured The Who’s Roger Daltrey, among others — Trisha delivered the pop standard "I’ll Be Seeing You," according to The Los Angeles Times. The song was a No. 1 hit for Bing Crosby in 1944 making it an appropriate choice, given the Bowl’s proclivity for classical music and traditional pop.

Garth gave a number of surprise performances this year for National Hockey League teams that had 100 percent participation in his charity, including the Nashville Predators, the Detroit Red Wings, the Phoenix Coyotes and the Calgary Flames. On June 8, he gave another surprise concert at the Encore Theatre in Las Vegas for an audience that included Bette Midler, comedian Rita Rudner and singers Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme. According to The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Garth will appear in yet another invitation-only performance Tuesday at the same venue. The paper has previously reported that theater owner Steve Wynn is believed to be courting Garth to make multiple appearances at the Encore.
