June 25, 2009 With a 15-month-old daughter at home, Darryl Worley had a whole new set of circumstances to work with when he started building his new album, Sounds Like Life.
And he did address it on the CD, but not as much as he could have. A number of songwriters pitched him music about children, and he tried to be picky about which ones he took. The topic of raising kids does "seep in" on the album, as GACs Suzanne Alexander put it, but thats as far as Darryl would let it go.
"Thats exactly what it is: Its seeping in," Darryl told her on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "Ive heard those songs that seem to be somewhat contrived, and I would listen to em and I would think, Man, I hope I never fall victim to that. But man, when you have somethin' so life-changing, it just seems like it would be such a sad thing to not let that emotion come out in a song. So Ive tried to write a few things. I didnt want this whole album to be nothin but that."
The topic of having a kid is, in fact, just one of many addressed in the albums first single, "Sounds Like Life To Me." Its at No. 24 on this weeks USA Today Mediabase country singles chart.
Darryl is GACs Artist of the Month for June. And hes featured alongside John Anderson on GAC Nights Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
