July 10, 2009 Sara Evans' husband is a former college quarterback and the host of a sports-radio talk show in Birmingham, so hes likely as thrilled as anyone with Saras prime-time gig next week. Shes slated to sing "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch on Tuesday during Major League Baseballs All-Star Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Saras just one of numerous Missouri-bred musicians whove been booked for All-Star events. Kennett-born Sheryl Crow will sing the national anthem on Tuesday in addition to playing a charity concert at the Gateway Arch on Saturday with Elvis Costello. "American Idol" champion David Cook, a native of Blue Springs, will perform two songs Monday during the home run derby, and "Idol" finalist Nikko Smith whose father, Ozzie, used to play shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals will do "The Star-Spangled Banner" that same day.
President Barack Obama will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Its not the first time Saras given a baseball-related performance this year. In May, she sang the national anthem before a high-school game in Birmingham. Briarwood Christian pitcher Ben Bracewell proceeded to throw a no-hitter.
