September 1, 2009 — Kenny Chesney’s known for having a good time onstage and on the islands. But in his new video for "I’m Alive," he shows a deeper side.

"Somebody said to me that it’s been a long time since anyone’s seen my soul in one of these clips," says Kenny. "And you know, they may be right - because you get so caught up in the energy, in the show, in the good times of these songs, why would you go there? But for this song, well, it just seemed like the right thing to do - and Shaun [director Shaun Silva] and his guys really captured the essence of who I am."

Kenny’s self-penned "I’m Alive" originally appeared on Willie Nelson’s Moment of Forever album. This time, Kenny welcomed his good friend, Dave Matthews on the song.

"["I’m Alive"] is about recognizing that no matter what happens, you’re still here," says Kenny, "and that’s a good thing. It’s easy - as the lyric says - to say that life is hard ... but the other side of that is being willing to admit that life isn’t one continuous party. You have to take moments to reflect, to look at where you’ve been, where you’re going, to find new dreams. I wanted this video to reflect that."

What will you see in the new clip? Director Silva brought some ground-breaking effects to integrate the black and white photos of Dave with Kenny from an earlier show to capture both the pair’s friendship and the spirit of the song’s message. Kenny’s performance footage was culled from several of the NFL stadiums on his Corona Extra-sponsored Sun City Carnival Tour, as well as a couple of stops on the commando Keg in the Closet tour. "I’m Alive" also looks at the more pensive moments, showing Kenny on the beach, thinking about life - and it features never-before-seen footage of Kenny performing in the torrential downpour that happened earlier this year in Dallas.
