Oct. 10, 2008 — Rascal Flatts received the Academy of Country Music’s Home Depot Humanitarian Award in May, and as a result, the band won the opportunity to provide a new playground to the city of its choice.

The trio — Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney — will venture to Birmingham on Wednesday to join numerous volunteers and KaBOOM! to build their playground at the Princeton Alternative Elementary School. They join several previous Humanitarian winners who’ve also erected playgrounds around the country, including Neal McCoy, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill and Brooks & Dunn.

The playground project is part of a major humanitarian week for Rascal Flatts. On Friday, Oct. 17, they’ll perform at Nashville’s Sommet Center with Taylor Swift with the receipts earmarked for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. It’s the fourth year in a row the band has donated the proceeds from its Music City concert to the facility.

Rascal Flatts’ Greatest Hits Volume 1 will be released Oct. 28 with a limited-edition two-CD package mixing the hits with bonus Christmas music.

The track list for Greatest Hits Volume 1 follows:
• "Prayin’ For Daylight"
• "I’m Movin’ On"
• "These Days"
• "I Melt"
• "Mayberry"
• "Feels Like Today"
