Oct. 23, 2008 Kenny Chesney earned the eighth No. 1 country album of his career with his new release Lucky Old Sun, and it also became Kennys fifth CD to top The Billboard 200.
Issued last week, the album sold 176,000 copies, coming in ahead of rapper T.I., singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne and hard-rock band Metallica.
Kenny has freely admitted that Lucky Old Sun, with its low-key attitude and reflective themes, was inspired in part by his breakup with Renee Zellweger. The split forced Kenny to re-evaluate his life and his approach to romance.
"Ive learned to take relationships very cautiously," he told People magazine for the issue that debuts Friday. "I dont let too many people sit at my table, but when they do, theyre there for a long time. Thats in choosing relationships, girlfriends and friends."
With Lucky Old Sun now out, its time for Kenny to start looking ahead to "The 42nd Annual CMA Awards," where hes nominated seven times more than any other artist. Kennys slated to perform that night with the Wailers, and hes likely bringing a date, though hes being coy about it.
"I probably know who Im going to take," he said, "but Im not going to put her through the wringer, so Im not going to say."
