Each week country music expert Neil Haislop answers your questions!
Q: What is the latest on SHeDAISY? I know that one sister had twins, but do they have new music coming out?
(Toesie, Tremonton, UT)
A: Toesie, the latest on SHeDAISY is that they're set to release a greatest hits album on February 5. The CD will be titled The Best of SHeDAISY and fans can pre-order it now at amazon.com. Also, they continue to work on a new studio album that should come out this year.
Q: When Shania Twain had a concert in London, Ontario they had a table set up for anyone who had gifts for her. I made a picture album for her. Is there a way to find out if she got it?
(Wallace, Hamilton, Ontario, CAN)
A: Wallace, there's probably no way to find out if Shania personally received the gift. In most cases, superstar artists like Shania Twain get a lot of gifts (thousands) from fans wanting to communicate their affection for the star. The artists appreciate the generosity, but they get so many gifts, some performers need a warehouse to store them all. Most look at as many as they can and try to thank fans, but they can't do that for everybody. Some say they save a few of the more unique or touching gifts, and donate the rest to charity.
Q: I know George Strait keeps his personal life extremely private, but I was just wondering if his wife, Norma, joins him on the road whenever he tours?
(Aaron, Mesa, AZ)
A: Aaron, we don't now how often Norma Strait goes on the road with George, but she does so frequently, according to stars that have toured with George and report chatting with Norma. Also, she's usually at George's side when he is up for his annual ration of many major music awards.
Q: How does an artist get their new releases played on the radio? I was wondering because I hear Toby Keith's new hits once in a blue moon, but I hear all the other new hits every hour on the hour.
(Stephanie, Gilbert, AZ)
A: Stephanie, nearly all artists, through their record labels, service radio stations with their new singles. Then record label promotion people work the song by contacting stations to persuade them to add the song to their play list. Ultimately it falls to the individual station (some of whom receive their playlist from a national network programmer) to decide if, when and how often to play a song. How large the playlist of new songs is and how many requests listeners call in for certain songs can determine which new songs get the most airplay.
Q: I have a 4-year-old grandson who is head-over-heels into Garth Brooks. He watches his DVDs and knows the words and actions to all songs. He would give anything to be able to write Garth and send him a picture. Is there an address you could give us so he could do this? Please help us!
(Paula, Henderson, KY)
A: Paula, the best chance is to go to garthbrooks.com, his official website. You'll find a menu item titled "Ask Garth" where fans can ask Garth questions directly. You'll see that he answers some of them personally.
Q: Does Trisha Yearwood have children from previous marriages?
(Sandra, Goderich, Ontario, CAN)
A: Sandra, Trisha Yearwood was married twice before she and Garth tied the knot. So, far she's never conceived, and according to Trisha, she may never have her own child. She told me that now that she's past 40 she doesn't think having a child is in her future. Meanwhile, she says she's extremely happy to have a hand in helping Garth Brooks raise his three daughters, whom she loves dearly.
Q: Is Tim McGraw making a sequel to "Flicka"? Does he have any other movies coming out soon? What has he been up to lately?
(Angie, Farmington, ME)
A: Angie, as far as we know there are no plans in the future to do a sequel to "Flicka." What Tim McGraw's manager recently told us is that has signed on to act in the new Reese Witherspoon-Vince Vaughn movie, "Four Christmases." Tim is to play one of Vaughn's siblings in a film that also features appearances by Dwight Yoakam, Jon Vavreau and Robert Duvall. No release date yet on that film.
Q: I was curious about Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles thoughts on her new song, "Stay." It was amazing to me that she thinks that people need to be more sympathetic to the woman who is helping a man cheat on his wife (he couldn't do it without someone to do it with). Also, some people may say that the woman may not know, but it is made abundantly clear in the song that "the other woman" knows he is married. I don't think that "the other woman" deserves any sympathy, as she was the one who put herself in the position to get hurt.
(Jessie, Manhattan, NY)
A: Jessie, I think it's possible to over-analyze the lyrics of a song. Remember, songs are just poems set to music that tell stories or express certain feelings that are usually open to multiple interpretations, all in just 3 minutes.
Jennifer Nettles is doing a great job of expressing the feelings of a woman that knows her lover is married. In the first half of the song, she loves him and wants to keep him, but in the last verse, she gains the strength to walk away. It's Jennifer's wonderfully soulful interpretation of those feelings that's made this a hit song.
