Each week country music expert Neil Haislop answers your questions!
Q: Hi, I was just wondering if Little Big Town will ever tour Australia as an opening or headline act? I would really love to see them live, but I can't because I am in Australia.
(Nikita, Mackay, Australia)
A: Nikita, its entirely possible that Little Big Town could appear some day in Australia. But it may be a while before they do. The group is just now breaking through big here in the States, and will do some big headlining here in the coming year. It may take a year or so, as they grow enough in popularity, that making a tour abroad will make sense. Also, since two members have very young children right now, a trip abroad may have to wait until the babies are a little older.
Q: I attended a Toby Keith concert back in August when he was touring with Montgomery Gentry. I was shocked when they didn't perform the song they recorded together, "I Pick My Parties"(a cut on Montgomery Gentrys Back When I Knew It All CD). I know it hasn't been a single by Montgomery Gentry, but one would assume that they would play it live since they were on tour together. Why do you think they left it out of the song list?
(Todd, Woodbridge, VA)
A: Todd, a couple of reasons are likely. First, I dont recall seeing Toby Keith invite his opening acts out on stage during his headlining spot, except for giving his harmony singer/protégé, Mica Roberts (or other artists on his label like Flynnville Train) a shot with him. Whats more likely is that label politics will decide when, and if, that collaboration might be released as a single. Playing such a cool song out on the road could send a signal that it might become a single and encourage airplay prematurely not a good thing if each artist is pushing solo singles.
Q: I was wondering if you could tell me what the latest news is with Lonestar? I love their new lead singer, Cody Collins, and I was wondering if they planned on releasing an album in the near future. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated!
(Amanda, Marysville, OH)
A: According to Lonestar, their new album, The Future, wont be released until early 2009. They recently reported to fans, "We have delayed release of this CD because we are working on a big announcement that involves our music and how it gets distributed. That means the music wont be available until after the first of the year." So Amanda, keep checking in with GACTV.com for album release updates, as well as the bands site for the release date of the new album.
Q: I often ask this question, but no one answers it. Why do I never see an ugly woman singer? I never saw one.
(Don, Denver, NC)
A: Well Don, maybe you tend to believe, as I do, that there are no ugly people since I see beauty in every human being. But I think that its simply easy to see the beauty of talented singers. Thats because every talented artist, as well as famous actors, all look better to us in good lighting and makeup, while theyre reaching our hearts and minds with the songs they perform, or through the famous roles they play in films.
Q: What happened to the third member of Sugarland?
(Kathy, Burrillville, RI)
A: Kathy, in 2005 Kristen Hall left Sugarland reportedly because she wasnt comfortable with the grind of performing, and decided shed be better off back in Atlanta where the band came together, doing the thing she loves doing most writing songs. A year after she left Sugarland, she told the Kansas City Star, "I dont want to be a touring musician. I love to find unsigned acts and bring them to the level (that) we did. I love that. That, to me, is my passion and whats fun about this business. We accomplished some great things. I started the band. I named the band. We fought a war to make a brand name - we did it. Its awesome. Im totally proud of it and support it. Good for me."
Q: What happened to Clay Davidson? He was one of my favorites. Does he have a new CD coming out anytime soon?
(T. Lewis, Hopewell, VA)
A: After scoring a No. 3 hit with his debut single, "Unconditional," in 2000, Clay Davidsons next two singles failed to reach beyond the 20s on the chart. So, he was soon off his record label and has yet to chart another song. Clay is still performing occasionally on the road, but we could not find a current website to check up on any recent news from Clay.
