Country Q&A: Recent Question

Week of February 18, 2009

By Neil Haislop

Each week country music expert Neil Haislop answers your questions!

Q: Neil, when are they going to put Carrie Underwood's new video for "I Told You So" on the Top 20 Country Countdown? We are waiting for this to be shown on GAC, especially since the video is of her performing at the Grand Ole Opry and Randy Travis coming out and complimenting her version of the song before he invited her to be a member.
(Stephen Nowinsky, Benson, AZ)

A: Stephen, Carrie Underwood's "I Told You So" was just added to the playlist last week. Knowing her track record, it should appear in the Top 20 in the next week or two.

Q: I have already voted for the ACMs. My problem is this: no one else in my home is able to cast their vote. Everyone has their own email account, and has been able to cast their own vote for other awards. But when they try to vote for the ACM Awards, it says 'YOUR VOTE HAS ALREADY BEEN COUNTED'. There are 5 other people here, and there is no reason why they cannot vote too.
(Heather, Lisbon, NY)

A: Heather, if everybody is using the same computer, that may be the problem. If the awards show computer sees the same IP address over and over, it may not let that computer vote again. Try having them vote on different computers.

Q: I was in Iraq and saw Mark Wills in Balad in Sept 2008. I got GAC just so I could see his special, but it stopped airing before I got to see it. How can I see it? Will you re-air it? Can I purchase it on DVD? I really need to see this. I saw Trace's X days and it was wonderful and has helped me.
(Brandy, Oxnard, CA)

A: Brandy, it's likely to re-air, but just when may be difficult to predict. The video of the show may never be available for sale unless there is some special agreement with the producers and the network. Just keep checking GACTV.com and search for that title periodically to catch it again if it is re-run. Also, be sure to try to Tivo the show so that you can obtain your own copy of it.

Q: Why did Tim McGraw go back and release "Nothing to Die For"? If my memory serves me correctly, it was featured on his Let It Go album. Whether he wanted to or not, Tim has since released another greatest hits collection. It is odd to me that he would go back to an older album instead of releasing newer material.
(Todd, Woodbridge, VA)

A: Todd, as you mentioned, Tim McGraw had a big dispute with his label about releasing another Greatest Hits package instead of new music. That's left Tim and has management to ponder a lot of things about his future moves. When I asked them recently about what's going on they said that, " Tim is lying back right now while we work on big plans for later in the year. No word on what that might be, but they are probably holding back on new material until the new album is scheduled for release.

Q: Do any of your listeners write in and comment on how GAC has been a blessing to its viewers -- especially to those who may be severely disabled, bedridden, and unable to participate in a normal lifestyle?
(Cindy, Plant City, FL)

A: Cindy I haven't gotten one like yours lately, but it's a good reminder to all broadcasters on TV or radio that many home-bound or bedridden people do rely on entertainment media to keep their spirits up. Most networks know that and that's why GAC offers a growing variety of good, wholesome and exciting shows featuring the biggest stars in country music.

Q: Whatever happened to Mac Davis, who sang "Texas In My Rear View Mirror?" I believe it was maybe mid-1980s?
(Cherri, Rapid City)

A: Cherri, Mac Davis wrote a lot of hit songs in the 1980s — and before and after. He also acted in several movies and between his acting, singing and songwriting careers Mac hasn't had to work much since. He plays a lot of golf, still writes and sings occasionally, but he's seen no reason to try to get back into the music business on a grand scale.
