Radio Daze: What Really Goes On At the Country Radio Seminar
Put a couple thousand country radio decision makers and a few dozen country stars under one roof and anything might happen. Storme Warren cover all of the behind the scenes action at the recent Country Radio Seminar held in downtown Nashville.
At separate parties, Toby Keith, Little Big Town, Taylor Swift and Craig Morgan seized the opportunity to lay some heavy metal love in the form of gold and platinum sales plaques on the very people who helped them reach those milestones. Little Big Town and Swift also swapped very personal gifts. "I gave them a copy of my 11th grade term paper called 'The Little Big Town That Could,'" Swift said. It should be noted that Swift was in the 11th grade last year.
Kix Brooks and Warren trade behind the mic war stories as Brooks attends his first Country Radio Seminar as an on-air host of the syndicated "American Country Countdown." "I'm the new guy," he commented. "Hopefully next year I'll feel a little more a part of the radio community."
There's a bit of microphone mayhem as stars get caught by the CMAA crew as they try to read hundreds of radio station liners for the stations who patiently line up to get them. "We're not doing very well...I don't know why this is so difficult," the tongue-tied Wreckers said laughing.
Giving new meaning to 'motorcycle mama,' Little Big Town's Kimberly Roads, who recently revealed she's pregnant, and band mate Karen Fairchild show Warren they've got the goods as the three endured a day's worth of motorcycle safety training in preparation for the Academy of Country Music's charity Harley ride scheduled in May.
And the unlikely duo of Alison Krauss and '80s pop star John Waite (of The Babies fame) talk with Warren about their re-make of Waite's signature classic, "Missing You." "It's a better song because of Alison," Waite said.
