Josh Turner: Packing A Punch
"What makes him special is that quality in his voice that you know in the first two words of any song he does," country legend Randy Travis says of Josh Turner in Josh Turner: Packing A Punch, a behind-the-scenes peek into the making of Punching Bag, his newest album. And Travis is not the only member of Turner's mutual admiration society: "American Idol" champ and rising country star Scotty McCreery, country traditionalist John Anderson, legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, producer Frank Rogers and BMI exec Jody Williams share what drew them to the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated star and all-around nice guy.
"As far as the music on this record, I want the fans to see that Ive learned exactly who I am as an artist, as a person," Turner says of Punching Bag, which will be released June 12. "It's truly my heart and a lot of different aspects of it." Viewers will also be treated to several performances including hits "Why Dont We Just Dance," and new music "Time is Love," "Punching Bag," and "Pallbearer."
Cameras go inside Turner's writer's 'cottage,' a structure he had built on his property. "I wrote 27 songs in here, eight of them ended up on my new record," he says. The log and stone structure also houses Turner's many awards and honors.
The married father of three young boys is only 34 and remembers singing for his first audience when he was just 13. "Here we are 21 years later and I'm running Josh Turner Enterprises, Incorporated. I can still hear echoes of people telling me I was crazy for coming to Nashville, it just reminds me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it."
