Backstory: Darius Rucker

Tune in for a look at the life of a young South Carolina boy who rose to the heights of the rock world in the 90's. As the lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish (whose debut CD sold 16 million units) Darius and Hootie were thrust into instant celebrity - quickly being dubbed as "America's Band." However, what many fans never knew was that Darius Rucker had always longed to be a straight-up country singer.

In 2006, Darius finally brought his country dream to Nashville where he immediately confronted the dual obstacles of an industry that looked suspiciously at rock stars "going country", and a genre of music that could count its African-American stars on one hand. With exclusive interviews from family, friends (including his golfing buddy Tiger Woods) and industry insiders; Backstory reveals how Darius Rucker transcended cultural and musical boundaries to not only win over Nashville, but also to firmly establish himself as an authentic new voice in country music.
